The Ist FIS International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition 2022

6 June to 19 June 2022 

Introduction 

The 1st FIS International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition, was held virtually (online) from 6 June to 19 June 2022. The Competition was hosted by Firdaous Initiative for Academic Excellence (then Firdaous Integrated Services (FIS), in partnership with the Faculty of Law, Kwara State University and Adekunle Ajasin University.

This year’s Competition saw eighteen African teams registering to Participate (University of Lay Adventists of Kigali, University of Rwanda, American University of Nigeria, Kampala International University, Uganda Christian University, Moi University, University of Forthare, University of Dar es Salaam, Moshi Co-orperative University, Islamic University in Uganda, Ahmadu Bello University, Adekunle Ajasin University, Bahir Dar University, University of Lusaka, Kwara State University, University of Ilorin, Bishop Stuart University, and University of Juba. regrettably, only seven teams submitted memorials thus making them the teams to participate in the oral phase of the competition.

Objectives

  1. To increase awareness and understanding of IHL among law students in Africa.
  2. To encourage law students to develop skills in analyzing and applying IHL principles in practical scenarios.
  3. To create a platform for law students to engage with IHL experts and practitioners.
  4. To foster a culture of respect for IHL principles in Africa.

KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY, FACULTY OF LAW

Kwara State University faculty of law was established in the year 2018, it consist of three departments: JURISPRUDENCE AND PUBLIC LAW, BUSINESS AND PRIVATE LAW AND ISLAMIC LAW and awards degrees in the following programs :
Common law, Common and Islamic law. Faculty of law kwasu is a fast rising faculty with over 26 academic and non academic staff. Like other prestigious faculties of law across the nation, we participate in extra curricular activities such as mooting and mock trial competitions, oratory contest etc. At faculty of law kwasu, Excellence is our priority.
