The 2nd FIS International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition 2023

Introduction 

The 2nd FIS International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition, was held virtually (online) from 22 May to 03 June 2023. The Competition was hosted by Firdaous Initiative for Academic Excellence (then Firdaous Integrated Services (FIS), in partnership with the School of Law, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

This year’s Competition saw Twenty Five African teams registering to Participate. Regrettably, only seventeen teams submitted memorials thus making them the teams to participate in the oral phase of the competition. This years Moot Problem covered areas on Unlawful Confinement as well as application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in identification of Military Objectives.

Objectives

  1. To increase awareness and understanding of IHL among law students in Africa.
  2. To encourage law students to develop skills in analyzing and applying IHL principles in practical scenarios.
  3. To create a platform for law students to engage with IHL experts and practitioners.
  4. To foster a culture of respect for IHL principles in Africa.
